WORLD KARATE SHOTOKAN ACADEMY

World Shotokan Karate Academy (1989 - 2001) was an important organization and a step towards Shotokan Ryu Kase Ha style. It also worked as a model for SKRHIA. The leader of the Japan Karate Association (JKA), sensei Nakayama was one of the pioneers to launch karate outside Japan. When he died in 1987, the JKA was divided into two parts, as one clear leader who would get everybody's support could not be found. As a result, one meaningful period in karate history ended. According to some rumours sensei Kase was asked to take over the leadership of the JKA, but he refused. Sensei Kase and sensei Shirai from Italy, two trainers and instructors whom both were sick of sport politics, founded the W.K.S.A., an organisation where training is more important than meetings.

Members of the W.K.S.A. consisted of senior trainers (at least third dan grade). In practice the organization was kind of university of teachers. The aim of the W.K.S.A. was to organize high quality courses and to improve the position of traditional karate-do. After a few occasions competitions were not organized.
Many countries have founded their own academies following the W.K.S.A.ís principle of training. Many of them are still functioning because there weren't any official relations between these academies with the W.K.S.A.

Almost all of the old members of W.K.S.A. are now in S.R.K.H.I.A.
