KIHAKU
Our club originally called Hervanta Karate Club was established in 1993. Mr Miika Laine and Mr Ilkka Piiroinen were the two persons responsible in the beginning. During the last few years our club has renewed its procedures. The name of the club also changed in spring 2002. Japanese term kihaku stands for spirit, strong drive and vigor. This term describes well the attitude of trainee in traditional karate - to achieve the state of disciplined and regular training. Karate practised as budo is a lifelong up-going path or road (jap. do). Via practice we try to achieve more wide scenery on karate as budo.

As the club's former name implies, we are based at Hervanta (a region of Tampere). Our training style is Shotokan Ryu Kase Ha. This style is strongly tradition related but also continuously developing strong karate style. You can read more about our style under the kime.to-link. Kihaku is not connected to any organisation but we co-operate closely not only with Finnish but also with European clubs and karatekas. We don't have so much interest for competitions but more for courses and other training events.

Sensei Taiji Kase (9.2.1929 - 24.11.2004) was our head instructor. He showed us that one can develop in karate for a lifetime. If karate is practised only as sport e.g. age puts some limitations on training. Instead of that we emphasise to practise karate as budo - fighting method and lifestyle. This type of training gives us a possibility to compensate age factors with experience and development of mental qualities.

Our club is meant for men and women. We prefer that you are at least 15 years old. If you have practiced karate before, please feel welcome to join our practices. In case you don't know karate yet, the best way to start is to register on our beginners-course.
